Liga Portugal set, at the start of the 2025-26 season, a national plan for Professional Football: to reach sixth place in the UEFA ranking by 2028. To achieve this, the organization will work alongside Sports Societies, other stakeholders and institutions, on an ambitious plan known as "Meta 2028".

Securing sixth place in the UEFA ranking would allow Liga Portugal Betclic to have six teams in the three European competitions - one more than the current five -, improving the qualifying path to the League Phase for all participants, opening the possibility of qualifying three Sports Societies for the UEFA Champions League.

"Liga Portugal Betclic must grow as a whole, on and off the pitch", says Reinaldo Teixeira, President of Liga Portugal. "That's why it's essential to increase the revenue of all Sports Societies, making them more relevant on the international stage. This plan, which will happen in parallel with the Centralization of Audiovisual Rights process, will focus on the commercial and ticketing areas, transfer revenue, increasing effective playing time, reducing the number of fouls and boosting competitiveness compared to other countries in UEFA's top ranking", states the President of Liga Portugal.

Clear objectives and action strategies will be defined across all areas , aimed at improving the performance of all Sports Societies. "Reaching sixth place in the UEFA Ranking will have a huge impact on the visibility of teams, coaches, players, partners and Liga Portugal Betclic itself in the international market and, of course, on the revenue of each Sports Society", underlines Reinaldo Teixeira.

For the President of Liga Portugal, "in addition to the ongoing centralization process, Liga Portugal believes Professional Football is ready to support a diversification of goals and pursue more ambitious international objectives".

Reinaldo Teixeira also shared his wishes for the 2025-26 season: "Today marks the beginning of a new season, the first of a new cycle and we want to raise the bar. I wish all Sports Societies a great season, and especially the fans. We're counting on everyone's contribution. What we want most is a competitive and memorable season, filled with emotion and entertainment".
