Liga Portugal has taken another step in its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility with the inauguration of an Energy Community at its headquarters in Porto.

Assuming an active role in building a greener future, this initiative marks a new chapter in Professional Football's community involvement efforts and also marks the beginning of the strategic partnership with Greenvolt, a benchmark company in the renewable energy sector and a leader in collective self-consumption solutions.

"The inauguration of the Energy Community at Arena Liga Portugal is the first visible milestone of the strategic partnership with Greenvolt. The installation of 101 photovoltaic solar panels in the home of Professional Football represents a clear commitment to energy efficiency and the reduction of our ecological footprint. This project also offers an opportunity for community sharing and engagement, promoting a collective self-consumption model with a positive environmental and social impact. This is also the purpose of Fundação do Futebol, which lists Environmental Sustainability as one of its areas of action", emphasizes Reinaldo Teixeira, President of Liga Portugal.

João Manso Neto, CEO of the Greenvolt Group, states that "decentralized production and energy communities have been consolidating as effective solutions for sectors looking to decarbonize their operations and generate environmental and social value". "Sport, and football in particular, offers excellent conditions for the implementation of this type of project, and this partnership with Liga Portugal contributes to bringing this sector even closer to sustainability and the use of clean and renewable resources", he said.

The Arena Liga Portugal building is now equipped with a clean, efficient, and sustainable energy production system, aligned with the decarbonization goals and the reduction of its ecological footprint, with an estimated annual production of around 77,411 kWh, that will avoid the emission of approximately 36 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

Energy Communities are based on a collective self-consumption sharing model, where solar energy production is shared between producers and consumers. Therefore, besides meeting part of the building's energy needs, this energy-sharing model allows other producer members to join the Community and share energy with Liga Portugal.

It is also important to highlight that this project will allow Sports Societies to access similar solutions under the same conditions, without the need for investment and with significant savings on energy costs.
