Rio Ave FC secured their spot in the 2nd stage of the Allianz CUP after beating Varzim SC on penalties (4-3).

In regular time, an own-goal by Ronan put the hosts in front in the 56th minute, but in the last quarter of the match, Aderllan Santos leveled the scoreline for Rio Ave FC.

In the penalty shootout, the visitors were more efficient and will now face the winners of the fixture between Vilafranquense and FC Arouca.
